Christmas Thoughts & Waco Christmas Celebration

First off, I want to start by wishing each one of you a very Merry CHRISTMAS (not Happy Holidays). This is such an awesome time of year, and there's just something about the excitement of Christmas that takes me back to being a kid again. Believe it or not, even among all the chaos that seems to surround this time of year, I still get that excitement that I felt as a boy every time I see a house all lit up, attend a candelight service at church, see Santa at the mall, or hear someone read the Christmas Story from Luke chapter 2.

I remember every year my grandmother would come to our house in Odessa and spend a few days before and a few days after Christmas with us. Every Christmas Eve, as my euphoria was by then at a fever pitch, my grandmother HAD to watch Lawrence Welk. That was such a bitter-sweet event every year, because this little hyper-active kid HATED Lawrence Welk, but yet when I saw him on TV leading that big band, I knew that Christmas was just right around the corner! I knew that before I went to bed that night, my Dad would read Luke 2 to us, and remind us that Christmas was all about Jesus. I knew that I had a sleepless night ahead of me, as well as the sheer torture of laying in my bed staring at the ceiling, waiting for that danged clock to reach 5:00 am.

I can relate to the movie "The Christmas Story" so well, because I was Ralphie personified. (If you hadn't seen the movie, climb out from under your rock and come over to my house... I've got it, it's a classic, and you just need to see it.) The narrator opens the movie with the quote:

"Ahh, Christmas, glorious Christmas! The event around which the entire kid year revolves!"

May this Christmas bring you and yours all the joy and happiness of a child. Jesus IS the reason for the season, and He loves you and desires a relationship with you. May He be real to you during this and every time of year.

Waco Christmas Celebration

I also want to take this opportunity to invite all of you that are in the Waco area to attend the Waco Christmas Celebration this coming weekend. It's put on by Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, and is a free gift to the city of Waco and the surrounding communities. You can read more about it, as well as see pictures from past years' performances at www.wacochristmas.com.

There are 5 performances to choose from this year, so please come join us as we celebrate the joy and meaning of Christmas! You will even get to see me in some goofy headgear (please don't let that stop you!). Show times are Saturday, December 10 at 1:00, 4:00 & 7:30 pm, and Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 & 7:30 pm.

Until next time... B
